Across the Ditch (and Back Again) - Te Kowhai Print Trust

A trans-Tasman collaboration between Te Kowhai Print Trust, Black Gully Printmakers and New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM), Armidale, NSW.

Te Kowhai Print Trust is thrilled to be partnering with the Black Gully Printmakers and NERAM in a collaborative printmaking project that celebrates experimentation, shared creativity, and connection across the ditch. Participating artists will exchange unfinished prints with a member of the other collective, creating a visual conversation that invites play, trust, and openness to surprise.

Each artist will begin a print—detailed or minimal, new or from an existing plate—and create an edition of two (plus a backup). These works are then sent to the partner collective, where a second artist will respond by printing into the original work using their own techniques and sensibilities. Both iterations are submitted for possible exhibition, and each artist will receive back one of their own prints that’s been transformed by another’s hand, and one print they’ve contributed to.

The final works will be exhibited at the New England Regional Art Museum in March 2026. This project is a chance to let go of control, embrace process over outcome, and celebrate the creative spark that comes from collaboration.

23 February 2025 Completion of reworking (NZ)
20 March 2026 Exhibition Opening at NERAM
May 2026 Return of prints to artists
