Northland's biggest print event Printapalooza a huge success

For the last two years we have hosted Te Kowhai Print Trust’s Printapalooza event. Approximately 16 local artists carved mural sized woodcut blocks with themes ranging from the undead to a rhinoceros drinking from a waterhole and everything in between. Using our largest ink rollers we ink the oversized plates, using approximately 3kg of ink over the course of each day. Once the blocks are inked we fire up the steam roller, lay the cotton fabric over the inked blocks and drive all 1.5 tonnes of road roller over them. The resulting prints look amazing! In 2015 we exhibited the huge prints in the Yvonne Rust Gallery where we held a silent auction. Every print sold! And in 2016 we exhibited at OneOneSix Bank Street and held a blind auction with much success. All funds raised are put towards the next Printapalooza. Our next Printapalooza event will be held in November 2017.

All in all the Steam Roller Printapalooza is a huge success. We’d like to thank the Creative Communities Whangarei, The Awesome Foundation, Printline, Cowley’s Hire Whangarei and everybody who attended and helped out, your support was much appreciated.
