Dr. Graeme Cornwell Exhibition and Residency

We are excited to be hosting Dr. Graeme Cornwell at the Te Kowhai Print Trust Studio from 25th May – 1st June. Graeme specialises in Lithography and will be working in the open Studio for the week from 10am – 2pm. We invite you to come in and have a look at what he is working on and experience this technique.

An exhibition of Graeme’s work is on over the week at the Yvonne Rust Gallery.

A bit about Dr. Graeme Cornwell;

Graeme Cornwell (b. 1954 Solomon Islands, TNG holds a PhD (in Art History/Theory and Art Criticism) from Wollongong University, an MFA (1st class) from Auckland University and a Post Graduate Diploma of Education (SCAE).

Graeme is an artist, printmaker, curator and writer. He is highly regarded as an artist in Australia and in New Zealand and has exhibited work in England, Holland, France, Germany, Japan, Thailand, and USA. He was the Artist in Residence in the Tokyo Studio for the Australian Visual Arts Board in 1990-91 and was invited to the Prawat Laucharoen Artist Residency in Manhattan in 2011. His work as a Master Printer is documented in Pat Gilmour’s book ‘Lasting Impressions’, and in the Jill McIntosh edited ‘Contemporary New Zealand Prints’. His contemporary approach to drawing is documented in Arthur McIntyre’s ‘Contemporary Australian Collage and its Origins’. Graeme has taught extensively: at the Sydney College of Arts, College of Fine Arts, NSW, the Western University of Sydney, Nepean, in Australia and in New Zealand at Elam School of Fine Arts, Otago School of Art, Auckland University of Technology, the Eastern Institute of Technology, Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology. He currently is a senior lecturer and teaches on the BCI degree at Toi-Ohomai Institute of Technology.

He has taught Lithographic printmaking, painting and graphics. For the last 20 years he has specialized and taught art history, media theory and cultural theory.
